What makes a....Good/Great Teacher?

Good morning,

Another week, another Monday. Your students will be waiting eagerly to enter your classroom in a matter of minutes. They want to give you a hug and share what they did they weekend. They are excited to learn, you can tell by their giant smiles. They want to fill their heads with new information. They enjoy the community and family feel you have built in your room. They feel welcomed, appreciated and respected. Each one of them has a special talent that they bring to your classroom daily. They are individualized with their own individual needs; which we all do a great job in constantly going above and beyond to meet. We all want to be great, who doesn't. The best part...each one of us are great, in our own way- within the workforce, as a friend, a mother etc. We don't wake up each day just wanting to be okay, or good...we want to be great. The article below has 9 qualities that describe what that looks like. I'll be honest, when I read this, I immediately thought about all of us. We are here for our students, we love and care for then unconditionally. We support and lean on one another to make the impact our students need. Please take a few minutes to read the below article.

Welcome back

Good morning, We hope everyone had a wonderful break. We are down to the wire...only a few weeks left. These upcoming weeks bring alot of angst and stress due to testing. Below are some useful tips for teaching emotional regulation and improving classroom behavior at the same time. It is important we teach children the connection on how they feel and how they act. Students often act out because of the way they feel. If we reach them internally, and help them express how they feel, then the way they act could be significantly improved. If we spend some time teaching emotional regulation children will realize they are in control of their feelings and actions in a positive manner instead of a negative one. Common Core's 8 Mathematical Practices

You should all have the mathematical practices by now. (They are also on the county website) It is important students know these practices fluently. They should be frequently using them during daily math instruction. When students use them they increase their ability to solve problems with a more strategic high ordered approach. It will further their understanding and all them to be successful. There are a ton of Powerpoints on Google with further explanation of the mathematical practices- also kid friendly ones.
